Ask the Expert

Coating a newconcrete floor, andrecommendations for new steel tanks.

At a recent industry event, I asked an industrial painting contractor about his background in the industry. He plunged straight into a compelling summary of his career, using words like "asset preservation" and "value-engineered solutions."

It may have been five minutes into his description before he mentioned either the word "paint" or "coatings."

As an employee of a major coatings supplier, trust me, I wasn't offended in the least. Contractors today are in the business of providing solutions for their customers, whether it's extending the service life of a wastewater facility, minimizing the inconveniences caused by a bridge repaint or ensuring that a ship will persevere in a harsh marine environment. Coatings are merely their primary tool in doing so.

Similarly,as a heavy-duty coatings supplier, our focus is on solutions as well. And to ensure that contractors, owners and specifiers are getting the solutions they seek, the Sherwin-Williams Industrial and Marine group continues to introduce new products at a level that is unsurpassed in the industry.

Consider, for example, our Fast Clad family of products, designed to minimize downtime, increase productivity and reduce labor costs by reducing the number of coats necessary while maintaining levels of performance expected of two and three-coat systems.Products such as DuraPlate MT, a high-solids epoxy that can be applied directly to damp steel, or our Hydrogloss Waterbased Urethane, a single-component urethane that offers performance comparable to two-component products, are also value engineered for both a contractor's and owner's benefit.Be sure to read about these products and others throughout this edition of Coatings Solutions.

Our Industrial and Marine new product initiative has never been stronger at the Sherwin-Williams Company.Trust that our efforts will continue in providing new and innovative solutions to our customers, so that you may continue providing them to yours.
